I work one to one with women whose lives got smaller than they were built for. Some came from a career that slowly took the voice out of them, some from a marriage that did, some from a relationship that controlled them, some from the good-girl rules they were handed before they could read. I hold an integrated Master's in Psychology and Counselling Studies from Birmingham City University. Before all this I spent ten years as a chartered accountant. And I came to this work the hard way.

The story.
The story

I walked both doors myself.

Before any of this, I was a chartered accountant. Corporate finance, ten-plus years, very competent, very good at being in rooms I didn't quite belong in. I knew how to make myself manageable. I knew how to be the person the situation required. I was very, very good at it — and it cost me a great deal that I didn't fully understand until my life fell apart.

I didn't choose to walk away from it. The choice was made for me, in the way those things sometimes are. What followed was a rebuild from nothing. And in that rebuild I did the Sacred Whispers work first — the slow, difficult work of understanding what had actually happened to me, what my nervous system had been carrying, why I kept ending up in the same kinds of situations with the same kinds of people. Not blaming myself. Just understanding.

And then I arrived at the F*CK Staying Silent phase. The what now. The choosing something different, on purpose, with my eyes open. The refusing to make myself small again because it was easier for everyone else.

This work is built from both of those experiences. Not just the rebuilding, but the fact that I lived both doors from the inside. I know what it feels like to need the quiet door first. I know what it feels like to be ready to roar and have nowhere to put it.

Sarah Howard — Life Expansion Coach

"I'm not here to tell you who to be. I'm here to help you remember who you already were — before survival required so much of your attention."

Sarah Howard · Life Expansion Coach

The name, explained

Most coaching is about becoming more.
This is about stopping being less.

Somewhere along the way, your life got smaller. Not all at once, and not because you failed at anything. You got good at your job and stopped speaking up in meetings. You had the kids and stopped being anyone but Mum. You learned which of your opinions caused a mood and quietly dropped them. You said yes because no felt like making a scene, and you apologised for things that weren't yours. Every one of those was a sensible adaptation to the room you were in. Add them up over twenty years and you get a woman who looks like she's coping just fine and doesn't know who she is anymore.

That's the shrink. Life Expansion is the reverse of it.

It isn't therapy, and it isn't a plan to blow your life up. It's one-to-one work over three months to find where you edited yourself down, understand why it made sense at the time, and build back the capacity to take up room. Some of that is understanding: why your body is always on edge, why the guilt arrives the second you stop being convenient, why "is it me?" has been your default question for years. Most of it is practical: what to say, what to stop saying sorry for, how to hold your position when someone pushes, and knowing what you actually want before anyone asks.

The expansion happens in you first. Your life follows, in whatever shape it takes. I can't promise you a different life. I can promise you'll be more able to meet the one you've got, and to change the parts of it that are yours to change.

Alongside.

How I work

The companion model.
Not in front. Alongside.

I am not an authority who tells you what to do or who you should become. I work from what I call the Companion Model — a recognition that meaningful change cannot be forced from the outside. Insight, readiness, and action have to come from you. My role is not to direct. It is to accompany, and then, by the end, to not be needed.

The content and coaching I create function in three ways. As a mirror — helping you recognise yourself, your patterns, your internal world, sometimes for the first time. As a map — helping you understand the terrain you've been navigating. And as a companion voice — one that reminds you that you are not alone in any of this, and that the horizon is still there even when you can't see it.

I don't measure success by how quickly you take action. I measure it by whether you leave each piece of work feeling less alone, less ashamed, and more able to trust your own perception.

The work I do is grounded in established psychology — specifically identity development theory (Marcia's identity statuses and the concept of delayed moratorium), trauma-informed frameworks, interpersonal neurobiology, and nervous system regulation. These are not frameworks I invented. They are frameworks built by researchers over decades, which I have spent years studying, applying, and translating into language real people can actually use.

I hold an MSci in Psychology and Counselling Studies from Birmingham City University, awarded in August 2026. This is not a credential I wave around to establish authority. It is the formal container for work I was already doing — a way of ensuring that the theoretical underpinning is as rigorous as the lived experience it sits alongside.

Soulful Horizons is not a clinical or therapeutic service. Nothing here replaces professional mental health support. But the intellectual foundation of this work is sound — and the women who engage with it deserve to know that.

Training and background

What I bring to the table.

Awarded 2026
MSci Psychology and Counselling Studies — Birmingham City University
Psychology, counselling theory, therapeutic practice, research methods. Academic grounding for the trauma-informed frameworks used throughout Soulful Horizons.
Present
Life Expansion Coach — Soulful Horizons
One-to-one coaching, workbooks, small group workshops and plain-English psychoeducation for women getting their outline back after a career, a relationship or a set of rules made them smaller.
Previous
Chartered Accountant — Corporate Finance
10+ years in corporate finance. Deep understanding of the professional world the women I work with inhabit — the pressure, the performance, and the cost of keeping it together while quietly falling apart.
Lived
Survived. Rebuilt. Still going.
Lived experience of coercive control, identity loss, and rebuilding from nothing. This is not a selling point. It is the reason the work is what it is.

"The women I work with are not broken. They are exhausted from holding too much for too long, in rooms that were never really designed with them in mind. The work is not about becoming someone new. It is about stopping doing the thing where you erase yourself before anyone else can."

Plainly.

Questions I get asked

Things worth saying plainly.

Is this therapy?+

No. Coaching and therapy are different things, and it is important to be honest about that distinction. Coaching is forward-facing and action-oriented. Therapy provides a clinical container for processing past experiences with a trained and regulated clinician. If you are in crisis or need clinical support, I will always encourage you to seek that. Soulful Horizons is not a substitute for it.

Do I have to call myself a survivor? Nothing that bad happened to me.+

No. You don't have to use that word at all if it doesn't fit. Many women who do this work would never describe themselves as survivors. They just know something has been wrong for a long time, and they're tired of it. That is enough. No label required, and "nothing that bad" is a sentence I hear a lot from women who are carrying a great deal.

I'm not sure it's me. Am I overreacting?+

I can't answer that for you from here, and I wouldn't try to. What I can say is that "am I overreacting?" is the question almost every woman I work with arrived with, and the ones who were actually overreacting are vanishingly rare. If something doesn't feel right, it's worth understanding why. That's what the quiet door is for.

What's the difference between the two doors?+

Sacred Whispers is the held work — the understanding, the making-sense-of-it, the nervous system education. F*CK Staying Silent is the action phase — the reclamation, the refusing to shrink, the taking-up-of-space. Many women move between them. Some start with one and find they always needed the other. Some stay in one indefinitely. There is no right order.

I'm not sure I'm ready. Should I wait?+

That depends on what you mean by ready. If you mean you're not sure of your words yet, or you're not sure you can explain it properly — you don't have to be. That is what the discovery call is for. If you mean you're not sure whether you want things to change — that is worth sitting with. But in my experience, the women who say they're not ready are often the ones who most need somewhere to go. Book the call. We'll work it out together.

Where are you? Do you work online?+

I'm based in Wolverhampton. All coaching is delivered online — via Zoom or equivalent. This means I work with women across the UK and internationally. The work does not require you to be in the same room as me. It requires you to be willing to show up honestly, which you can do from anywhere.

Ready to find out if we're the right fit?

A free thirty-minute discovery call. No pressure, no pitch. Just a conversation to see if working together makes sense, and the prices are on the Work With Me page before we speak.
